Changing Lives
Life is often puzzling with its odd serendipitous occurrences. An event that brought us to our knees, ends up amazing us with the final unexpected outcome. And so it happened that a series of events caused a wealth of ideas to spring into action to create the “Changing Lives” programs.
It may have started when working with adults with developmental disabilities, watching both the blossoming of their talents and self esteem. Or the unexpected relief brought on by a goofy, spontaneous art therapy session during a traumatic period. Maybe it was watching an abused elder struggling to maintain some quality of life. Whatever the case may be, the opportunity to do good became evident and monarchs became the common denominator…
The Monarch Project is not only dedicated to helping monarch butterflies, but looks to benefit those in need in the community as well. Here are a few of the programs we offer.
Art Therapy in women’s shelters. Creating tangible items with inspiration monarch themes that empower, build confidence or simply make them feel more at peace or safer.
Senior center, assisted living & nursing home monarch visits. When possible we like to be able to leave a larva cage so they can watch the metamorphosis, but just seeing the monarchs and caterpillars up close is enjoyable as well. (we don’t just strand the poor hungry caterpillars – volunteers tend to the feeding and cleaning the cages)
Art Therapy classes with At Risk kids or adults with developmental disabilities. Simple art project classes that are fun, promote cooperation and help build self esteem.
